My Way: Detroit’s Aaria enlists YFN Lucci for K.P. & Envyi-inspired single & video

Detroit up-and-comer Aaria recently dropped off her latest single, “My Way,” produced by J.Von. The song—a new take on K.P. & Envyi’s 1998 classic, “Swing My Way,” features Atlanta superstar and “Everyday We Lit” hitmaker, YFN Lucci.

“‘My Way is the epitome of female empowerment,” Aaria explains.

“Women have played the submissive role for too long, in and outside of the bedroom. More women need to embrace their power; We set the tone. Shoutout to J.Von, the producer, for putting the track together. Immediately after I heard it, it took me back to my favorite era in music, 90’s R&B.”

YFN Lucci is the perfect choice for a guest feature on the single, seeing as K.P. and Envyi are also from Atlanta. According to the track’s Wikipedia entry: “The two solo artists were merged in a duo by Lil Jon’s label, BME Recordings to record what would be a hit record for the Atlanta based compilation, Rhythm & Quad.” They reunited in Atlanta in 2011 for a live performance of “Swing My Way” at the A-Town Legends concert.

“[K.P. & Envyi] made it cool for women to ‘shoot their shot,’ and be vocal; I wanted to keep the essence of that. ‘My Way’ is a reminder that women have every right to take control and get what what they want out of their partner and life.”

On Feb. 8, just a few weeks before Aaria’s “My Way” was released, YFN Lucci posted a $500k bond to be released from jail after being charged with murder.

“I love Lucci’s tone and knew he would be perfect for ‘My Way,’” Aaria said of the collaboration.

“When I heard his verse, I loved the song even more! Working with him on the record and on set was definitely organic and fun. I’m sending prayers and love to him right now with everything going on.”
