Toronto artist Poetics the Poet releases new “Quarantine” video & single

Toronto recording artist Poetics the Poet continues his 2020 campaign with the release of his latest video, “Quarantine.”

The “Quarantine” single originally started off as a beat created by Legendary Big Mack aka LBM. The Toronto producer offered the beat for use to anyone willing to jump to the challenge. Within seconds of the beat being out, hungry and anxious, Poetics the Poet snatched it up and had a song penned by the next day.

Inspired by COVID-19, and written during the pandemic, “Quarantine” hits heavy with witty wordplay and ear smashing bars. As Poetics put it, “I’ve been hitting jumpshots since I was 4’5,” cleverly playing on Michael Jordan’s famous return to the NBA as a reference to his own entrance to the hip-hop scene.

Poet’s trusted producers TOnX got their hands on Legendary Big Mack’s already sizzling beat and added their touch to the end of the track, bringing that irresistible Latin sound from the El Salvadorian Toronto-based duo.

Directed by TK Productions—who chose the underpass park in Downtown Toronto and Scarborough’s Edward Gardens as locations to shoot—”Quarantine” follows Poetics’ early October video release for “SAZON” (featuring TOnX and Toronto artist/engineer, CRUIZE). “Quarantine” premiered on 6ixBuzz on Nov. 1 and is available for viewing below.

Watch out for more from the pack as 2021 is shaping up to be a stellar year.

About Poetics the Poet

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents being from the Caribbean islands, primarily Trinidad with some Venezuelan roots, music has always influenced Poetics’ style. From Whitney Houston to Hector Lavoie, Poetics has been known to blend different genres to stand out amongst the crowd.

Named Stephen Clarke, he didn’t get his nickname and now stage name until high school. He wrote spoken word poetry all through out his university years. Focusing on creative writing and graduating with a B.A. in English and Professional writing, he has used his studies to broaden the wordplay in his lyrics. He studied hip-hop and poetry as an undergraduate which is where he fell in love with the genre. Not stopping at hip-hop, he also focused on the roots of hip hop music going back to the 1920’s with blues and jazz right into the birth of hip-hop in the late 70’s.

His writing style doesn’t quite fit into one category. With his producers, he incorporates hip hop and trap with a blend of reggaeton and trapeton. Being from Toronto, multiculturalism is at it’s best when Poetics is spitting his rhymes. He focuses heavily on creative lyrics with double entendres, internal rhymes and takes his time working on his craft. He writes everything his audience hears and leans on his extensive vocabulary to hit the ear.

Some of his big influences growing up were Tupac Shakur, Coolio and surprisingly enough, 90’s soft rock in general. But lately, he credits alot of his own work and style behind Joyner Lucas. Although he can never mirror what Joyner does, he praises Joyners’ style of story telling and has worked that influence into his new song “Politiking”.

A father first and foremost, he spends the rest of his time working, writing and recording all from his basement. Till now he has amassed 20 unreleased songs. He has released 4 on all streaming platforms and has plans to release a song a month, and soon 2 songs bi-weekly. Two of his releases in less then a month have hit 10K and 5K respectfully. Although numbers are important, Poetics’ mission is to be heard first, and the recognition and accolades behind his music will inevitably come.

He understands the grind of the music industry but is currently focusing heavily on networking and the creative process. He continues to make the content he loves and respects and continues to share it with the masses.
