Genius: How J. Cole’s The Off-Season cover was created

Back when it dropped, The Off-Season broke Spotify’s one-day streaming record for 2021 (at that point) with 62 million streams. J. Cole also secured his sixth number one album, selling 282,000 equivalent album units, including 37,000 pure album sales within the first week.

Yesterday, Genius posted an in-depth look at how The Off-Season artwork came to life.

In May 2021, J. Cole released his sixth studio album ‘The Off-Season,’ his most intentional work to date which represents his culmination of committing to the craft. The album artwork features a calm Cole with a fiery basketball hoop behind him—evoking a feeling of dedication and persistence—while continuing his career-long basketball motif.
