The legendary final performance of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath is set to reach a global audience through a new concert film, Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning. The film captures the historic event that took place last July, when the Prince of Darkness headlined the star-studded Back to the Beginning festival in his hometown of Birmingham, England.
During that monumental show, Osbourne delivered both a solo headlining set and a reunion performance with the original Black Sabbath lineup. Tragically, less than three weeks after this career-defining event, Ozzy passed away at the age of 76. The upcoming film serves as a poignant tribute to his enduring legacy and his final moments on stage.
Directed by Ben Wainwright-Pearce, who previously edited Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour for Disney+, the film is scheduled for release on October 28. Tickets for the cinematic experience will be available for purchase starting September 24 at 10am ET.
Back to the Beginning came about because I asked Ozzy what would really make him happy, and he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.
Reflecting on the significance of the event, Sharon Osbourne noted that the concert was a deeply personal mission for her husband. The festival itself featured an impressive roster of rock and metal icons, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Halestorm, and Yungblud. Tom Morello, who served as the show’s music director, remarked that there had never been a precedent for a production of this magnitude.
Members of Black Sabbath also shared their reflections on the emotional weight of the performance. Guitarist Tony Iommi described the show as a necessary closure for the band, while bassist Geezer Butler characterized the atmosphere as a tangible wave of love. Drummer Bill Ward echoed these sentiments, stating that being back on stage with his bandmates felt like returning home.
