MUNA issued a statement after appearing on September 10’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside Israeli actress Gal Gadot, advocating for a free Palestine and clarifying that they were not originally told they would be on the same show as Gadot.
In an Instagram story posted Thursday (September 10), MUNA member Naomi McPherson stated: “We’re on Kimmel tonight! Thank you to all the staff of the show who were so great to us…they were legends who really went the extra mile.” She continued: “This was taped a few days ago & we weren’t told who any of the guests were gonna be. So gotta also just take this moment also to say a nice big huge free Palestine.” McPherson followed up by linking to an effort run by Gaza Scholars Ireland to help Palestinian students get visas in order to study in Ireland.

Gadot, who was on Kimmel to promote her new action movie Runner, has long been at the center of the celebrity Israel-Palestine discourse for her unabashed support of her home country. Before becoming a bad actor, Gadot was herself an IDF soldier. MUNA, for their part, have long advocated for a free Palestine, including on their latest album TK. All Bandcamp proceeds from their punk-inspired song “Big Stick,” which criticizes America-first policy rhetoric, were donated to Pal Humanity, an organization providing medical aid, supplies, and schooling in Northern Gaza.
