Toronto’s Road Runner previews Trapistan album with “First Day Out”

Roughly six or seven hours ago, budding Toronto rapper Road Runner returned with fresh visuals. The Tango-directed video clip was an early look at Road Runner’s latest single, “First Day Out,” which was officially released to Spotify and other digital streaming platforms at midnight.

“Though the track is meant to mark Road Runner’s release from house arrest, it’s not the turn-up anthem you might expect. Rather, over a gently simmering beat laced with a sped-up soul sample, the Pakistani-Canadian rapper gets introspective.” – Alex Nino Gheciu of Complex Canada

“First Day Out” comes after the Road Runner concluded a stint on house arrest, which proved to be a highly productive time for the 24-year-old rapper. In February, he released the Forever Alone EP, which rose to No. 1 on the iTunes Canada Hip-Hop/Rap chart. He’s also released five other singles since the beginning of the year including “No Pressure” (packaged with “Truth“) in June, and the Smiley and 6ixBuzz-assisted, “Spinladen.”

“Going out for the first time in so long really felt amazing,” Road Runner explained to Complex Canada.

“It made me realize how much we take our freedom for granted and I couldn’t wait to get myself to a real studio. I plan to keep pushing my music and take full advantage of my music and focus on nothing else but my music when I’m out and about. My supporters should be expecting a lot more music from me soon.”

“First Day Out” is our Song of the Day, and the first song off Road Runner’s album debut, Trapistan, which has yet to receive a release date (as far as we know). Check out the video below (shot and edited by Charlton Visuals), and stay tuned for more from Road Runner.
