Earlier this month, Vaughan, Ontario rap artist and songwriter Kontrast released his latest single of the year, “Voices.”
Produced by Mantra, “Voices” was created with the intention of shedding light on the daily struggles of those suffering from mental illness.
“The song ‘VOICES’ is probably the most vulnerable piece I’ve made,” reveals Kontrast of the single.
“It’s basically a summary of my thought process through some of the most dark times in my life. Ironically I actually wrote this song when I was in a really good headspace. I feel like I finally had the clarity to articulate what I wanted to say back then. I wanted this song to sonically correlate with all the emotions I was feeling at that time. There are hints of sadness with the chord progression, but the strings give you that ‘let’s get through this’ feel. The intention behind ‘Voices’ was to hopefully resonate with those who suffer from addiction and/or mental illness and shed some light on the daily struggles and inner dialog.“
“Voices” was released on April 12 along with three other tracks by Kontrast. The other three include “Every Day Since,” the head-knocking “Cheeks,” and “Therapy.” You can find “Voices” on various digital streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify.
