Toronto’s J-Soul returns with the “Usually” single & video

After a brief hiatus from the music scene, Toronto-based recording artist J-Soul is back with a new heartfelt banger. The new single “Usually” is available now on Apple Music, Spotify, and other digital streaming platforms via Sad Soul Records.

Despite not being very active over the past years, J-Soul remains one of the biggest names coming out of Toronto’s bubbling hip-hop scene. In March 2016, Birdman signed the rapper-singer to Cash Money Records, and released J-Soul’s popular “Toronto Plaza Motel” video to WorldStarHipHop. Later that year, Cash Money released J-Soul’s biggest record to date with the Prezident Jeff-produced “Slow Wine.” The song has racked up over 21 million streams on just Spotify alone, and the Martin & Oscar-powered video is verging on 8 million views on YouTube.

Fast forward to today, with his catalogue amassing over 30 million streams, J-Soul continues to focus on the music, with an emphasis on quality over quantity. After going independent in 2019, he took time to re-discover his love and passion for the art on a journey of self-reflection. During this time, J-Soul stayed quiet on social media while solely focusing on creating and spending time in the studio.

Ultimately, the hiatus proved helpful, and allowed J-Soul to mature in ways that have made him ready to return to the music industry in full throttle, while staying true to himself.

On top of just making a return to releasing music, J-Soul was adamant that he approach things with a different mentality. It had to be genuine. Speaking on heavier topics, such as addiction, mental health, and gun violence, his first release “Usually” comes as the perfect introduction to his creative self-reform. By creating more meaningful and lyric heavy records inspired by his own trauma and experiences, he hopes fans can relate and connect on a deeper level.

Coming in support of the new single, J-Soul has also released the “Usually” video which shows a vulnerable, never before seen side of of the young star. Check it out below along with the single.
