Calgary-based rap duo Cartel Madras recently dropped the third and final instalment of their Project Goonda trilogy, The Serpent & The Tiger. The project picks up from 2018’s Trapistan and their previous 2019 release, Age of the Goonda.
The Serpent & The Tiger was released on August 19th, 2021 and clocks in at just over 25 minutes in runtime with ten tracks. The project features appearances from Toronto’s Dom Dias, as well as Airospace, Backxwash, Tyris White, Jide, and Shiro Jackson.
The singles leading up to the full-length release consisted of 2021’s “Drift”, “Dream Girl Concept”, and “Fear & Loathing”, which was released just last month in preparation for the project.
Dropping alongside the project were no visuals powered by Asim Overstands and Vince Raquel for the Tyris White-assisted “Lavender Nightz.” The video has been viewed over 8K times to date.
“In ‘Lavender Nightz’ we take you to one night in Tokyo in a playful nod to the many iterations of a Neo Tokyo and the visual stylings of Wong Kar Wai,” said Cartal Madras of the video.
“We have always been creatures of the night and this song takes you through a contemplative, moody freestyle from a moment in our lives.”
You can listen to The Serpent & The Tiger on Spotify and other various digital streaming platforms via Sub Pop Records / Royal Mountain Records. Check out the full video for “Lavender Nightz” below.
