Purveyors of their own unique brand of ‘future techno’, Y do I have been on a prolific run of form over the past few years, with their avant-garde productions resonating with a growing legion of loyal fans across the globe. Perpetually striving to deliver an unmatched sensory experience for the listener – both in their eclectic studio releases and hard-hitting live performances – Y do I have an innate ability to fuse multiple genres into a sum much greater than their constituent parts, reimagining a close affinity for trance, minimal, progressive and techno within a uniquely gripping and original paradigm. As the duo gear up to release their new album ‘I Know’ on September 10, we were lucky enough to catch up with them for an exclusive Only Techno interview. Here’s how it went down.
Welcome David and Amos. Thanks very much for your time to talk to us. How are you today?
Hi there, thank you for approaching us, we love to share our ideas & thoughts with our followers. We are more then good actually, COVID times did good for us. Finally we had full studio time to maximise our project.
Please say a few words about yourselves for our Only Techno readers, how you met, and about how you got into the music industry.
We are friends since childhood, we both are parents, so we share our love to creation, music and kids, in our case. We appreciate cutting edge movements that no one has done before, it’s simply inspiring. Overall we strive to create something that no one has created before. David has been in the business for 20 years, coming from different genre of electronic music. He started producing electronic music really young, started from few gigs 15 years back, and here we are. Amos was a party promoter back then, so we kind of started from the same spot, but in different angle.
From where are you answering this interview?
From David’s house at Israel, in the countryside where the studio is.
What’s the music scene like where you currently live?
At Israel the crowd is more intense, more noise, more emotion & a strong connection to the surroundings. There is a huge scene here. But unfortunately it’s very poor with variety. But we plan to change that 🙂
Are things beginning to open up again?
Yup, here they are almost back to “normal”
How would you describe your particular brand of electronic music for those that may be unfamilar?
It’s a fusion of everything which we find good. With super high quality mix and huge vibes.
You have an amazing new album project coming up on Area Verde. Can you talk us through the release and how it came about?
We didn’t plan it actually, we did this album in amazing 4 months during COVID lockdown. We tried to do something that no one has done before, with a huge success in our opinion. We fused techno, psytrance, progressive house & minimal to a musical quest to the unknown. We call it ‘Future Techno’. You simply got to hear it, to get the effect of it. Every track is different than the other, but still maintains the same energy as the other.
How does your creative process start when making a new record?
That’s an easy one, we start from the theme mainly, it can be anything which we carried from the last few days.
What’s your opinion on the proliferation of livestreaming over the past 18 months? Do you think it’s here to stay?
Well, we hope no haha. Music is connecting people, streaming is nice when there is no other options. But music is about frontal encounter. Where you can hug & kiss & dance as a collective to an active meditation.
Are you planning some touring soon that you can tell us about?
Unfortunately due to COVID everything is postpone to 2022.
Is there anything else you would like to mention to our Only Techno community before you go?
