Interview: Space 92

Hailed by critics as “one of techno’s most sought-after acts of the decade” Space 92’s rise to superstardom has been meteoric to say the least. One of the best selling Techno artists in the world for the past three years, the prolific, in-demand Frenchman has achieved more in the space of a few years than most could hope to achieve in a whole career. Fresh off the back of his collaboration ‘Control’ with POPOF and UMEK, we sat down with the man himself to find out more.

Welcome Mathieu! Thanks very much for your time to talk to us here at Only Techno. How are you today?

Hi! Thank you very much for having me, pleasure is mine.

Where are you answering this interview from?

I’m currently answering your questions from my apartment in Toulouse (South of France). I’m always happy when I get the chance to spend a few days at home.

How would you describe your particular brand of techno?

I would say that my Techno is energetic, metallic-sounding and groovy, with tones that can sometimes borderline on the very dark, and melodies that can be very melancholic and haunting.

Let’s talk about some of your new projects, starting with your amazing new label launch. Can you tell us more about that?

Indeed! Since the beginning of my Space 92 project, I have always dreamed of launching my own label, in order to be able to release my music the way I want it and also to allow my fanbase to discover some artists that I like. The project is still in progress and I hope that it will be finalized as soon as possible. It’s important not to rush so that it can be as perfect as possible.

In terms of new music, do you have anything coming up in the pipeline that you can share with us?

I have a lot of new music that is due to be released between now and the end of the year, notably in July with a release on a renowned American label and an upcoming collaboration with HI-LO on Filth On Acid.

On the live side, are you planning some more touring soon that you can tell us about?

My touring schedule has been so intense these days it’s ridiculous. And festival season has started as well, so I’m due to perform at bit everywhere; I’ll notably perform at Balaton festival in Budapest, Hungary on June 30th. I will also play for the first time ever in Chile mid- June in addition to other gigs in Paris, Berlin and other European cities this summer.

What’s the diary looking like?

Basically, my schedule is full and all my weekends are booked.

Is there anything else you would like to mention to our Only Techno community before you go?

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the fans out there who support me. Their number has been increasing so much and I’m so grateful. It was a pleasure answering your questions today; I hope to see you very soon.
