Phoebe Lunny, the lead singer and guitarist for the UK-based punk outfit Lambrini Girls, recently shared a harrowing personal experience on the A View From A Bridge podcast. During her appearance, Lunny revealed that she was arrested after attempting to alert concert and festival promoters about a male musician she believed to be “dodgy.”
The podcast, which features guests sharing intimate stories while speaking into a red telephone on a bridge, has previously hosted notable figures such as Riz Ahmed, Charlie Steen of the band shame, and Cynthia Erivo. In her episode, Lunny recounted the events leading up to her arrest, explaining that she had been out for a run when police informed her of a harassment complaint filed against her. Upon arriving at the police station as instructed, she was promptly arrested.
“This happened because I took the liberty of emailing a handful of promoters, saying, ‘Hey, I’ve just seen you’ve got this band on your bill, there’s a guy in it, he’s known to be really dodgy, if you want your gig to be a safe space for women, take him off the bill,’” Lunny explained. The musician in question, who remained anonymous, had been alerted to the emails and subsequently reported them to law enforcement.
Lunny noted that she was informed she could face up to six months in prison for her actions. However, the charges were eventually dropped after she provided an apology letter to the musician. Reflecting on the ordeal, she remarked, “Even laws which are in place to protect women can be exploited and used for a man’s benefit.” On social media, she further clarified that she had intentionally avoided naming the individual to prevent further legal complications.
The incident marks another difficult chapter for Lambrini Girls this year. The band previously faced significant setbacks, including the cancellation of their Coachella appearances and the rescheduling of a North American tour after Lunny suffered a fractured neck and an acute brain injury while in Australia. The group is currently looking forward to returning to the stage for a tour this fall.
