A Monumental Effort for Advocacy
The Just Cause benefit series has officially returned with its second installment, a sprawling compilation that underscores the power of collective artistic action. Just Cause Vol. 2 arrives as a massive, 63-track collection, offering nearly five hours of previously unreleased music. The project serves as a direct fundraiser for the Immigrant Defense Project (IDP), an organization at the forefront of protecting the rights of immigrants and addressing the systemic intersections between criminal and immigration law.
The compilation is a testament to the breadth of the current independent music scene, featuring a diverse array of contributions including covers, remixes, rarities, demos, and live recordings. With 63 artists participating, the project highlights a wide spectrum of genres and creative approaches, ensuring that the listening experience is as varied as the community it supports.
A Diverse Lineup of Contributors
The roster for Just Cause Vol. 2 is impressively curated, featuring notable names such as Allegra Krieger, Brutus VIII, Lucy Liyou, Natalia Catalan, Okkyung Lee, Pleasure Systems, Shallowater, Starcleaner Reunion, and The Soft Pink Truth. This eclectic mix of talent reflects the project’s goal of fostering discovery, allowing listeners to engage with both familiar voices and new, emerging artists.
Evan Welsh of Bayonet Records, who co-organized the project, noted the humbling nature of the collaboration. “It’s humbling to see the incredible range of artists contributing to this album,” Welsh stated. “Many of them are our friends, and the music here spans a wide spectrum of sounds, genres, and approaches. There’s something for everyone, and we hope listeners discover new favorites alongside familiar voices.”
Supporting the Immigrant Defense Project
The mission behind Just Cause Vol. 2 is clear and unwavering: 100% of the proceeds from the compilation will be donated in perpetuity to the Immigrant Defense Project. By purchasing or streaming the collection, listeners are directly contributing to an organization dedicated to expanding the rights of all immigrants. This release follows the success of 2024’s Just Cause Vol. 1, which was organized to support the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, establishing the series as a vital platform for social and political advocacy through music.
The project features artwork by Aldrin Regina Valdez and was mastered by Andrew Weathers, ensuring a high-quality presentation for this expansive collection. The album is currently available for purchase and streaming via Bandcamp and Nina Protocol.
