This past Friday, award-winning Toronto artist Haviah Mighty dropped her latest and eighth official single of the year. The Young Dreadz-produced “Tesla” received visual support a day earlier, with Haviah enlisting Jesse Dart of Die Fire Films to bring her vision to life. The video has already been viewed over 150K times on YouTube since its release on Sept. 9th. Haviah shared a message about “Telsa” on social media:
“‘Polaris Prize, now I gotta maintain’ is my current mindset. foot on they neck type shit. never slowing down type mood. progression is the only wavelength I’m on.. If you’re focused on something.. if nothing and no one can stop you.. drop a ✔️ in the commentssss for meeee ☺️”
Each of the new singles former Polaris Music Prize winner has been packaged with similarly-styled artwork designed by illustrator/animator and director, blackpowerbarbie.
It’s hard to imagine Haviah’s 2021 momentum not culminating with the release of a new album. Her fans are certainly hungry for it. It would be her first since the 2019 award-winning 13th Floor, which Pitchfork labelled her “most cohesive and narratively ambitious project to date.”
“Tesla” is HipHopCanada’s Song of the Day. You can find the single on various digital streaming platforms via Mighty Gang Inc. Be sure to also check out the new Haviah Mighty merchandise available here.
