Electronic music enthusiasts have a new reason to celebrate as the acclaimed trio Cobblestone Jazz returns to ITISWHATITIS Recordings with their latest project, the Generations EP. This release arrives following a pivotal period for the group, who utilized a five-day residency at Berlin’s Freedom Engine Studios last year to craft the material before the facility relocated to Lisbon.
The EP is anchored by its title track, "Generations," a sprawling composition that highlights the trio's improvisational synergy. By leveraging the unique sonic characteristics of the PPG Wave synthesizer, the group creates an emotionally resonant soundscape that serves as a testament to their technical and creative range.
In contrast to the lead track, "The Whipper" showcases a more aggressive, experimental side of the collective. The production process involved heavy manipulation of sound through Alessia Nvelope and Karacter 500-series modules. Having already served as a staple in Mathew Jonson’s recent solo live performances, the track is explicitly designed for high-impact club environments.
The collection is rounded out by "Generations (Version)," an alternate take on the title track. This iteration functions as a high-energy DJ tool, incorporating additional percussion to heighten the intensity of the original mix. It offers listeners and selectors alike a functional yet deeply expressive alternative.
The EP is slated for release on June 11, 2025, via ITISWHATITIS Recordings, with global distribution handled by Word and Sound. Featuring cover artwork by Ross Peasant, the project will be available for presale starting May 28, 2025. The tracks were written and produced by the trio of Danuel Tate, Mathew Jonson, and Tyger Dhula, with publishing handled by QAP Songs.
