The Usual: Ottawa’s Blake Alexander drops visuals for Quest-produced single

Ottawa up-and-comer Blake Alexander capped off 2020 with new visuals for his BurbnOnTheBeat-produced single, “The Usual” (mixed by Quest).

“Praying on the daily like the usual. Attacked by my demons, still the usual. My x said don’t give up feelings mutual, giving up going to God been the ritual.”

Alexander is a 29-year-old inspired, motivated, dedicated and new upcoming artist who decided to pursue a career in music in 2019. For the past decade, Alexander has been battling addiction with alcohol and drugs, seeing both highs and lows in the process. In 2018, his addiction took him to places he would wish no one would ever have to be. Addicted to drugs and alcohol, he ended up homeless on the street of downtown Ottawa.

Thankfully, in the past two years, he’s remained sober and now channels his experiences through his music. While in treatment, Blake decided that he was going to change his musical style. Changing from the secular music we commonly hear today, to rapping about change, hope, faith, how others can overcome addiction and how they can build their own relationship with God.

Blake has said that this is only the beginning and has plans on releasing multiple tracks in 2021.

“It’s never too late to change and we all can overcome addiction with the help of community,” said Alexander of his outlook.

Most recently, Alexander released the “Everything” single, and he’s currently working on his second album, Life After, a follow up to his 2019 debut, New Life.

You can find “The Usual” and “Everything” on various digital streaming platforms including Apple Music and Spotify via Red and White Records.
