Toronto rapper Smiley took fans by surprise recently by announcing a new single that would feature none other than Canadian icon, Drake.
The Tay Keith-produced “Over The Top” features a simplistic trap beat with haunting piano keys, allowing the two rappers to comfortably bounce off each other during the track’s brief two minute runtime. There’s a ton of memorable lines on the track including competitive bars from Drake:
“Anyone else would retire, but I’m not content
I wanna bury these ni**as like twenty feet down so no one can find them again
It’s gotta be scary to witness me carry these ni**as around in both of my hands.”
Smiley also references last year’s leak of a different Drake feature:
“Got a verse from the boy and it leaked (Fuck)
He sent me a new one said use it instead (Use it).”
“Over The Top” marks the pair’s second collaboration, as they have previously worked together on 2020’s “Organization.” Smiley was also recently featured on “Name Brand” off the Canada’s Most Wanted compilation released by 6ixBuzz. Given Smiley’s consistent output throughout 2021, as well as a co-sign from Drake, it’s looking more likely that a full length project is on the way.
