After making a huge impact with her video debut, “We Gon Make It,” budding Ottawa artist Nagy Gogetta is back with another release.
“I wrote ‘Trophy’ In July of 2020,” said Nagy of her latest single.
“I was at 669 Studio, Downtown Toronto. During my last 10 minutes of my three hours session. I told John I want to try this beat real quick and I started freestyling to it. Then I went home to Ottawa and wrote the rest! It’s my engineer John’s favourite song. I usually ask him after a session, ‘what song you liked the most,’ and he said ‘Trophy’ with a BIG Smile on his face. When I go to the studio I try to lay down five-six tracks. Always. Sweezy, my producer, sends me a pack with six different types of songs. I usually go for trap beats but something told me to try this soft beat and actually tune in with my lovey dovey side… I’m really glad I did.”
The video for the Sweezy-produced “Trophy” was shot and directed by Namix and premiered on March 12, 2021, while the single dropped independently back in February.
“[Namix] reached out to me saying he’d love to shoot it and he was really passionate so I tough it would really be organic,” said Nagy of the video.
“We spoke on FaceTime exchanged ideas and it was a rap! We filmed February 4th / February 5th, also used some film and I forgot it takes some time to develop. With having everything digital now a days you tend to forget that! I’m sorry for the delay I decided to hold it. My initial plan was to drop it on Valentine’s Day but I’m glad I held it because February was a busy month for music.”
You can find “Trophy” on various digital streaming platforms includinng Apple Music and Spotify.
