Eve finally got her 27-years late Grammy for “You Got Me”

Whether you’re Beyoncé or Eve, it’s never too late to receive a Grammy, no matter how long it takes. Well, it’s finally Eve’s day to receive her long-overdue second little gold gramophone. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the “Love Is Blind” rapper finally picked up a Grammy for her uncredited verse on The Roots‘ “You Got Me” 27 years after the song’s release and subsequent Grammy win. The song won the best rap performance by a duo or group award at the 2000 Grammys, but, in a scenario reminiscent of poor Llewyn Davis’ experience on “Mr. Kennedy,” Eve went uncredited, excluding her from the spoils of awards season war. Though if you ask Recording Academy president Harvey Mason, once they learned about the story, “it was really simple[…]we needed to make it right.”

Eve was still relatively unknown as a rapper when the song was released, and she released her debut album nine months after “You Got Me” hit the airwaves. Nevertheless, the exclusion had clearly been bugging the members of the Roots, or at least Questlove, who admitted to being “extremely inconsiderate” when discussing the controversy with Eve on his podcast in 2024. This is Eve’s second Grammy, having previously won for her collaboration with Gwen Stefani, “Let Me Blow Your Mind.” Indeed, Eve’s mind appeared blown as she accepted the award at the Record Academy Honors last night in Los Angeles.

“This is actually for little Eve from Philly, the little girl who loved to write rhymes and just wanted to be in the business,” said Eve. “I’m truly, truly grateful to be in this room with all of you here, all of the greats, people who inspired me, my peers. I remember when y’all called me—I was a little tipsy, I had a few martinis out with a friend—and I kind of was like, ‘wow, what is yours never can miss you, even 30 years later.’ So I’m truly grateful for this.”
