Following a busy period of international touring, the acclaimed electronic trio Cobblestone Jazz—comprising Danuel Tate, Mathew Jonson, and Tyger Dhula—have unveiled their latest project, the Generations EP. Recorded during a final five-day session at the legendary Freedom Engine Studios in Berlin before its relocation to Lisbon, the release captures the group’s unparalleled improvisational chemistry.
The EP is anchored by its title track, “Generations,” a sprawling, emotionally resonant composition that highlights the group’s mastery of the PPG Wave synthesizer. It serves as a testament to their ability to blend complex sound design with deep, human expression.
On the B-side, the trio shifts gears with “The Whipper.” This track represents a departure into more aggressive, club-focused territory. Conceived as an experiment in extreme sound design, the production utilizes heavy processing through Alessia Nvelope and Karacter 500-series modules. Having been a staple in Mathew Jonson’s solo live sets for months, the track is already established as a formidable dance-floor weapon.
Rounding out the collection is “Generations (Version),” a concise, percussion-heavy rework of the lead track. Designed as a functional tool for DJs, it offers a high-energy alternative that maintains the original’s expressive depth while increasing its impact in a club environment.
The Generations EP, released on ITISWHATITIS Recordings, features cover art by resident artist Ross Peasant. With global distribution handled by Word and Sound, the project stands as a significant addition to the group’s storied catalog, further cementing their legacy in the world of 2024 music and beyond.
