Hello! Thanks for your time! How would you introduce yourself to our audience?
Thanks for having me, I’m just a normal guy who loves electronic music, going to clubs and traveling for festivals, raised in the city Baltimore & living in Atlanta, Georgia.
How does your creative process start?
Most music producers can probably relate; but it starts for me when I least expect it. Most of the time when I am alone, driving, trying to fall asleep, or even taking a shower I get my best ideas stuck in my head & from there I hum the idea into my phone and have it ready when I go to work.
The reason for this interview is your ‘Graveyard March’ EP. What can you tell us the idea behind it?
Graveyard March was one of the first tracks I ever finished, & I sent it out to labels with my first EP but no one picked it up. Instead of getting discouraged, I sat on the song and after months of learning new ideas and tricks in producing….. one night in the studio I had an A-Ha! The moment that forced me back into the project to revamp the tune.
From there I was inspired to send it off to Christian Smith, who also loved the track and gave me my big break on Tronic.
The release features your collaboration with Kreecher. What would you as an artist tell us about this track and your mutual work?
Kreecher and I actually met online watching Zen World (a Youtube production teacher) while he was having a live, music feedback stream. We kept in contact and finally decided to work on a track. Kreecher is a great dude from Lebanon, and when I finished up the collab I wanted to name the track after him and his Country. We both have our own style of Dark, Angry, Aggressive techno & when combined we make some cool music.
Tittle track ‘Graveyard March’ was the #1 overall & #1 techno release on Beatport. How are you satisfied with the feedback?
The feedback has been incredible, Tronic sent it out for promo to some of the biggest names in Techno like Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Bart Skills, Monika Kruse, Joseph Capriati, Oliver Hunteman, + many more and they all came back with confirmed support of the tune. It even has received airplay and charting from some of my favorites in progressive house like Genix, and Paul Thomas.
How would you describe the current situation on the global electronic scene?
Obviously Corona Virus is unfortunate, but I know it will pass in due time. That being said, I think this has been an amazing opportunity for hungry producers like myself to just work, work & work some more on music.
How would you describe your sound?
I want my sound to be Epic, dark, and aggressive, but in a fun way that takes the listener on a journey whether it’s on the club floor, or in their car.
What’s your opinion on the current live streaming trend among DJs?
I have respect for everyone live streaming, but I personally do not think it can replace that amazing feeling you get at a festival or club show – when the music is hitting your body just right, the sound is ultra-crisp, and the visuals control your mind.
What is underground for you?
To me – underground is just a feeling, it has nothing to do with how big or popular a DJ or festival is, it’s the feeling that DJ or festival gives. The feeling of someone or something that started from nothing, and is bringing people together through the music, but most importantly stays true to its origins throughout their lifecycle & always remains humble.
Tell us something more about your collaboration with Christian Smith and Tronic Music imprint?
To make it onto Tronic is a dream, and Christian has become a mentor and a friend to me throughout the process. Tronic is the #2 techno export in the world, and to receive advice, feedback, (and most important) – Support, from a legend such as Christian is humbling.
Are you planning some new music? Can we expect your new releases soon?
I have a TON of new music I cannot wait to release 😉
My Next release, ‘Full Moon’ is out August 12th on HNTR’s imprint No Neon, based in Toronto. I consider HNTR as another mentor and a close friend, whose work I have been a fan of since 2013 when he was releasing music on Spinnin’ as Hunter Siegel.
Do you believe that an artist has to be both producer and a DJ?
I do not, but I do believe that stage presence as a DJ/Producer is a very important part of your brand. When I DJ, I do it because I love nothing more than being in the crowd; where I have had some of the best experiences of my life at a festival / show. I want to give back and try to provide that best experience to the crowd while I am on stage… and I think that works hand-in-hand with the music.
