Throwback Thursday: Toronto’s Choclair enlists Jully Black for the “What It Takes” video

Early this morning and just in time for Throwback Thursday, Toronto legend Choclair uploaded the video for his 1997 single, “What It Takes,” to his YouTube channel.

The song was produced by Choclair’s manager Day and features another Toronto legend, Jully Black. It was featured on the 1997 EP by the same name, What It Takes which featured the original song, remixes of “Just a Second” and “What It Takes” (including a version with Afrolistic and K.C. Thomas), and the instrumentals for every song featured. It was released through his own label, Kneedeep Records, and won Choclair the 1997 JUNO Award for Best Rap Recording.

“What It Takes,” which is unfortunately not available in the greatest quality, has actually lived on YouTube since Apr 14, 2010 and has collected over 35K views since. The version you’re seeing is from a Rap City broadcast from the late 90’s.

“What It Takes” and the What It Takes EP are currently not available on major digital streaming platforms. Check out the J Hood and Little X (aka Director X)-directed video below.
