Beck has officially announced his return to the studio with the upcoming release of Ride Lonesome, his first new album in seven years. Following the success of his 2019 GRAMMY-winning project Hyperspace, the artist is set to drop this new collection on September 18th via Capitol Records. The announcement is accompanied by the release of a new single, “In The Night,” an atmospheric and moody track that showcases a shift toward more intimate, guitar-driven arrangements.
The production of Ride Lonesome marks a significant reunion for the artist, as he has reassembled a team of familiar collaborators. The record features contributions from Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., Jason Falkner, and Justin Meldal-Johnson—a group that previously worked with him on acclaimed albums such as Sea Change, Morning Phase, and Mutations. Additionally, the album was mixed by Nigel Godrich, further cementing the project’s connection to the sound of his earlier, more meditative work.
“It had been a decade since we went in the studio and recorded Morning Phase. This time it felt like the playing and the chemistry had evolved and deepened—a sound that’s come together over the decades of working together,” Beck stated in a press release. “While we were revisiting a musical and physical place, it also felt like we were finding new sounds and emotional textures along the way.”
The new single, “In The Night,” eschews traditional song structures, opting instead for an ever-repeating refrain over a building orchestral arrangement. The accompanying music video features actor Denis Lavant, adding a visual layer to the track’s haunted, crepuscular tone.
