Noah Kahan—singer, songwriter, and celebrated artist—recently brought his Great Divide Tour to Pittsburgh, where he found himself performing in the midst of a unique cultural convergence. As thousands of attendees descended upon the city for AnthroCon, the world’s largest furry convention, Kahan made it clear that he was more than happy to bridge the gap between his music and the vibrant community.
On July 3, the Vermont-based musician took to social media to extend an open invitation to his fans. “Pittsburgh: if you are caught between attending the worlds largest furry convention or my show tonight then please know you are welcome to combine the two,” Kahan posted on X. When a fan inquired about what his personal fursona might be, the singer jokingly replied, “Squid man.”
The sentiment carried over to his performance at PNC Park that evening. Kahan addressed the crowd directly, stating, “Furries are welcome. All the animal kingdom is welcome tonight. I don’t see any so far, but I will be looking and asking a lot of questions after the show.”
In a lighthearted moment during the set, Kahan engaged in a staged phone call with the “National Center For Furry Awareness” to better understand the community’s habits. He also donned a furry mask while on stage, further cementing his support for the attendees. “If there are any furries in the crowd? Hell yeah,” he told the cheering audience.
