Episode 36 – March 22, 2021

Week 8 of THE BLOCK kicks off with the single “Hold On” by popular Alabama rock band Alabama Shakes. The song was featured on the group’s debut album, Boys & Girls, which was released on April 9, 2012, and peaked at number 6 on the US Billboard 200.

The two-hour playlist features a dope variety of selections with music from artists like The OBGMs, Jay-Z, TiKA (featuring Clairmont The Second), Jacksoul, SATE, and more.

The 2019 single “Switch” reminded us why we need another album from The Sorority, and Montreal artist Imposs (formerly of Muzion), hits hard with his Marie-Mai-assisted single, “Sans Lendemain (One Last Time)” off the 2020 album, ÉlévaZIIION (Société distincte).

Episode 37 – March 23, 2021

Episode 37 of THE BLOCK began with a huge single from Brooklyn rapper and Flipmode Squad member, Rampage. His The Vibe Chemist Backspin-produced single, “Wild for da Night” (featuring Rampage’s cousin Busta Rhymes), was released on Rampage’s album debut, Scout’s Honor… by Way of Blood, in 1997.

The two-hour playlist also features music from a large selection of talented artists including Charmaine, Ari Lennox, Dubmatique, Run The Jewels, Anderson .Paak, and more.

“The Light” by Common makes any playlist instantly better, and even more so when it’s followed by “Say Peace,” off his latest project, A Beautiful Revolution (Pt. 1) (2020)

Episode 38 – March 24, 2021

Episode 38 of THE BLOCK kicks off with a 2018 single by Toronto-based R&B singer-songwriter Adria Kain called “Sunrise.” Kain has been touted by The Fader, Complex, HYPEBAE, and more, and opened for the likes of Grammy Award-winning and platinum-selling recording artists such as ?uestlove, BJ The Chicago Kid, Miguel and Ari Lennox, while her vocals have been sprinkled throughout various project including releases from PartyNextDoor and Allan Rayman.

The two-hour playlist also features music from artists like Zeina, OutKast, Mickey Guyton, Darius Rucker, and others. Canadian hip-hop is once again well-presented in the mix with tracks from Haviah Mighty, Junia-T, Choclair and several more.

Episode 39 – March 25, 2021

American group En Vogue set the tone for 90’s with the Dec. 1989 release of their debut single, “Hold On.” The Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy-produced single was featured on the group’s album debut, Born to Sing, and was ranked ranked number 4 in Spin magazine’s ranking of “The 30 Best ’90s R&B Songs.” The song also kicks off Episode 39 of THE BLOCK which is packed with some huge records.

Along with En Vogue, two-hour playlist features music from a wide range of artists including Corrine Bailey Rae, Babyface, Witch Prophet, Liza, K’naan, and more.

Episode 40 – March 26, 2021

Episode 40 began with Sons of the James and their 2020 single, “Things I Should Have Said.” Sons Of The James is a duo project between singer/songwriter Rob Milton and producer/musician DJ Harrison, recorded in Richmond, Virginia, and inspired by a blend of classic Gospel music and the Soulquarians era R&B/Soul.

The two-hour playlist features a great combo of new bangers and classic throwbacks including music from Justine Tyrell, De La Soul, J Hus, Sammy Jackson, Gyptian, and others.

Several huge Canadian records made the cut including the new k-os single, “Just What I Needed,” “Panic” which was released by JellyTooFly in 2020, and “When I Come Thru” from Toronto’s Tre Mission.
