Macklemore Defends Pro-Palestine Speech Amid Industry Backlash

Macklemore has officially defended his recent pro-Palestine speech following a wave of criticism from high-profile figures, including Pink and Boy George. The rapper, currently supporting Ed Sheeran on his “Loop” tour, utilized his platform at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to advocate for humanitarian causes, specifically calling for a free Palestine.

During his performances on September 4 and 5, Macklemore addressed the crowd, stating, “I believe that every human being walking on this earth deserves exactly the same freedom.” He further expanded his message to include calls for liberation in Cuba, Congo, Sudan, and Iran, while also criticizing the agency ICE before performing his track “Hind’s Hall.”

The reaction was swift. The Israeli American Council petitioned for his removal from the tour, arguing that the concert stage should not be used for political agendas. Meanwhile, Pink shared a post from the group StopAntisemitism, which accused the rapper of turning a mainstream event into a “political nightmare.” Boy George also voiced his disapproval, utilizing AI-generated imagery to mock the rapper and criticize his stance.

Despite the mounting pressure, Macklemore has remained steadfast in his position. While he did not engage directly with individual critics, he shared a full clip of his speech on social media, accompanied by a clear message: “Wanting all humans to be treated equal should never be controversial.”
