Northern Cold is back on his record label, EONS, to deliver a driving techno EP with industrial drums and mind-blowing synth lines.
Based in Seattle, Northern Cold is an American artist whose hard-hitting sound unleashes a torrent of relentless energy. Weaving in moments of euphoria, he is a master of finding the perfect balance between gritty textures and emotive melodies.
Releasing consistently through, EONS, Northern Cold’s music is a translation of the DJ skills he has perfected while playing at underground events in the Pacific Northwest region of the US.
One of the four tracks on this EP is a collaboration with IN_DUAL, who’s an exciting new producer from Seattle who has previously released his solo music through EONS.
“Setting the Fires” opens the release with some eerie pads, before launching into the explosive drums that are a staple throughout this release. Swelling synths build tension as the track unfolds, and the breakdown introduces an exhilarating arpeggio line.
“Exposure” has thrashing hi-hats and a hammering kick drum forming a framework for the dreamy melody that contrasts with the brutality of the percussion.
“Flux” is the collaboration with IN_DUAL, and it has a lurching lead synth creating menacing tension. The track is cut by bursts of breakbeat as it approaches the acid-tinged breakdown, then the drums slam back in, and the intensity lifts to the next level.
“Dead Winter (Outro Mix)” closes the release, and after the heavy percussion of the main groove, it ends with an epic synth section that’s perfect for bringing a high-intensity DJ set to a close.
