Song of the Day: The LJ addresses betrayal & trust on “Can’t Match” single

Our Song of the Day is the latest single from Ottawa rapper and producer, The LJ.

“I’m constantly struggling with having to cut people off that I once thought I could trust. Imagine thinking you could depend on people and being let down over and over.” – The LJ

Coming from the vibrant depths of The Cave, the LukieBaby-produced “Can’t Match” tackles issues of trust and betrayal, and being let down by those you rely on the most. The LJ didn’t mince words when breaking down the track’s concept:

“It’s hard to tell who’s real and who isn’t when you’re at the top of any field you choose to dedicate yourself to. This song documents my perspective of the multiple sides of nearing my goals. On one hand, I have VVS stones on my wrist and still can pay the rent. That is how I choose to celebrate my success. On the other hand, I’m constantly struggling with having to cut people off that I once thought I could trust. Imagine thinking you could depend on people and being let down over and over. This is the overall theme of the song. After a while, even something like betrayal becomes normal especially when you’re operating at a high level.”
