The Paste Happiest Hour: Watkins Family Hour & MC Taylor (Hiss Golden Messenger)

Tune in today, Tuesday, May 12, for the latest episode of The Paste Happiest Hour, our daily livestream interview and music show hosted by Paste editor-in-chief Josh Jackson.

Today’s episode begins with Sean and Sara Watkins of Watkins Family Hour at 5pm ET, followed by MC Taylor of Hiss Golden Messenger at 5:25pm ET.

First up is Watkins Family Hour, the brother/sister duo of Sean and Sara Watkins. The pair were two-thirds of long-running progressive bluegrass trio Nickel Creek with mandolinist Chris Thile from 1989 to 2007, and have gone on to countless music projects since. Sara released her solo debut in 2009, produced by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul White. She’s also performed as part of I’m With Her and The Decemberists and was named Instrumentalist of the Year Award from the Americana Music Awards. Sean has released a half dozen solo albums and two more as half of the duo Fiction Family with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot. Watkins Family Hour’s second album Brother Sister, released last month, features a mix of originals and covers and guest vocals from David Garza, Gaby Moreno and John C. Reilly. Watch Sara perform with Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan as I’m With Her at the Paste Studio in New York in 2018:

Then we’ll be joined by MC Taylor of North Carolina alt-country act Hiss Golden Messenger. Formed in 2007, Hiss Golden Messenger has released 11 albums, including last year’s Terms of Surrender. Taylor’s latest release is Forward, Children: A fundraiser for Durham Public Schools Students. The son of two teachers with a wife who teaches ESL and two children in the system, Taylor is donating all funds to help students affected by the closure of the schools from Covid-19.
